Why should I get a
website for myself, my group, my business or company?
With millions of
people using the Internet daily, a website can give the following:
- For an
Individual:
Share your hobbies and interests with the world, make new friends
...
- For a small
business:
A website can provide detailed product or service information that
is accessible to your customers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You
can improve customer service and support by giving answers to
frequently asked questions. This frees your staff to do other
work. Save money communicating with your customers; information
that you show on your website can significantly reduce telephone,
printing, and postage costs.
- For a group:
Information that you show on your website can significantly reduce
telephone, printing, and postage costs. A website can provide
vital information about upcoming events. You can share goals and
plans for your organization and keep all the members updated.
What is the
Internet?
The Internet simply
is the exchange of information from one computer, over telephone
lines, through an Internet access server managed by an Internet
Service Provider (ISP), through a high-speed backbone telephone
connection, through another server, over telephone lines, to another
computer.
What is a server?
Internet Service
Providers manage the servers. A server is really a powerful
computer. A server is dedicated to one of several tasks. One server
handles all the traffic between several computers and the high-speed
backbone. One server can store all the web pages that people want to
show the world. One server handles electronic mail. One server
handles all the traffic to the thousands of newsgroups on the web.

What is the web?
The web is simply a
party line for computers! Your computer can exchange information
with any other computer in the world that is connected to a
telephone line and to an Internet Service Provider.
What is e-mail?
Electronic mail
(e-mail) is simply a free way to send text that you write on your
computer, over telephone lines, through a mail server managed by an
Internet Service Provider (ISP), through a high-speed backbone,
through another mail server, over telephone lines, to another
computer.
What is a
Universal Resource Locator (URL)?
It is simply an
address. When you type in a Universal Resource Locator (URL), or
address, on your computer Internet browser, your computer sends a
signal over telephone lines, through an Internet access server
managed by an Internet Service Provider (ISP), through a high-speed
backbone, to another server somewhere in the world.
On that server, the
web page that you want shows on your browser.
The address tells
your computer where to look: the address has slashes (/) in the
address line. These slashes work in a similar way as a regular
street address does, only in reverse: Country / City / Street / Name
or for Internet purposes, Server / Big storage area in server /
cabinet in big storage area / drawer in cabinet /
This is actually
the same way the post office looks at your mail address when it
sorts the mail: from the bottom up, Country / City / Street / Name.

What is a web
page?
You are looking at
one! You can make a web page look like anything you want. Text,
Photos, Images, Animations, Music ....
What is a domain
name?
A domain name is an
easy-to-remember address for your website. Instead of a lengthy
address such as: www.yourISP.com/~yourcompanyname/index.html
Your domain name could be www.yourcompany.com
A short-and-easy to remember domain name increases your professional
image with your potential clients and customers, and gives the bonus
of often increasing the ranking of your website with Internet search
engines.
We offer domain name registration services as well as web-hosting,
which is a "home" for your domain name website.
What is domain
name web hosting?
- Imagine that
your website is like a virtual 24 hour store or office on the
Internet.
- Your domain name
is like having that store in a prestigious office building or
having your store located in a well-known shopping mall.
- Domain name
hosting is like the office space you are renting in that building
- it is the physical space that your domain name website occupies
on a computer server. Web hosting is like paying the monthly rent
on your virtual store or office space.
